Description for
200 N Society RoadCanterbury, CT 06331
Handcrafted, attention to detail and passion are just a few of the things that come to mind when we see this rare and beautiful house made with love and fine craftsmanship. On a country road in the woods of Canterbury, not too far and not too close, this circa 1750 resort awaits to be made into your sanctuary. In 1989, the owners bought this property in disrepair. They took it apart and rebuilt it with 2 other 1700s house structures. After years of hard work and dedication, we bring you nothing short of the perfect balance between the 18th century and the 21st century. The foundation was replaced in 1989 with cement blocks for footings and walls. However, the top rows are stone to mimic the look of a stone foundation. The chimney was saved with some repointing and gas inserts in all 4 of the fireplaces. The basement fireplace has a bread baking oven. The structure is made of hand-hewn beams reclaimed like many other parts of the decor, trim, and fine woodworking. The diligent creator of this work of art replicated the few pieces using antique tools and techniques of the 1700s to bring it all together. Modern day kitchen appliances, a 435' deep well pumping 30 gallons per minute, water filtration system, bathroom amenities, a large deck and pool with pergola. The primary bedroom suit has a nautically decorated sunroom.
